Saginaw with Hurst question

I recently purchased a 1979 RS. Its a 4 speed car with console. I am looking to replace the factory shifter with a Hurst competition shifter in the future. I have a few questions that i am having a hard time finding answers for. Should the linkage be changed at the same time? The fsctory shift pattern has reverse in the far left and down position but from what i see on the Hurst it is in the far left and up position. Does the linkage on the trans simply get flipped to accomplish this? Thanks for any and all input. I want to make sure i'm making the right choices before I drop $600+ for the new setup.

tom3, that is the shifter kit only I believ . That price is on par with other places that I've seen it. The linkage is roughly an additional $220. That's where I came up with my initial price of $600. My thought is that if I'm going to drop that kind of money on a shifter I may as well change out the linkage too.

These shifters are easy to find on say Ebay, then rebuild it, if needed, and buy the arms, there are a few places that sell and rebuild them as well, or you can buy just the parts, really simple , and if you can not find a nice arm, you can buy that part seperate as well, you also maybe able to tighten up the one you have, so that you would be happy, with a simple rebuild kit and better linkage shims/connectors
