LOL ^^ love it, you are retired and having a blast testing and learning, no time for sleep or getting old, as the old saying goes "A rolling stone gathers no moss" or something like that.

Yes sir, this is a lot of fun to make what I think are old garbage parts run fantastic for what they are. Just got the car running and with the mufflers on the car again you can hear all the little noises. I would not be afraid to toss this 400 in any street car and roast the tires. [email protected] last time out, let's see if the Vortecs are better than the old heads everything else is the same as last time out.

Thanks, was testing some other carburetors tonight. Boy the QF ones my buddy brought over sure do run pig rich at idle, he wants me to try his 750 vs my FST 750. We dropped my new FST carb on the 400 and it runs pretty good (no stinky's), if it goes as good as it sounds next week should be fun, or it could still be a complete bust.

Read a post just now about a near stock block 400 SB with 305 heads with the L79 327 cam used in a round track car back years ago. Some kind of budget race series, but a strong performer from what was posted. Doesn't seem possible?

I ran 11.94 compression in a SBC 350 and pulled heavy loads with it.
    Pump gas and very possible.
    70,000 miles like that.
I have had lower compression deals that were not as happy as that engine.
