I also picked up a.motor with the number 3970010 on driver rear. I was told it was a high nickel 327. But I'm having a problem verifying it. The numbers on the front passenger pad are A20589A. There is no suffix code stamped anywhere that i can see. Can someone tell me what I have here. Thanks! 20210608_185830.jpg 20210608_185830.jpg 20210608_133327.jpg

That’s the same block number that I have in my 71Z and it’s a 4 bolt main but I’ve heard that they also used that block in 2 bolt mains.

Most of the 4" bore blocks made by Chevy between 1969 and 1979 are 3970010 castings. Most of them are 2 bolt main blocks, but the ones used in higher performance applications are 4 bolt.
The stamped number doesn't follow the standard code for a factory installed block, so there is probably no way to tell what it was originally.
