have a few options id like to throw out there and see what you guys bounce back to me.... as the car is torn apart (and will be back together for this spring) need to figure out what im going to do motorwise.
here is what i have in the 'parts bin' if you will.

original 350, 85000mi runs like a champ, well 190hp a champ with asthma..

gm goodwrench 350, 35000mi runs like a champ, ran the block nmbers came back as a 240hp crate replacement motor.

set of vortec heads solid but need to be cleaned/prepped

option 1: use the goodwrench motor, put the vortec heads on and run it

option 2 (and the one im leaning towards): same as above but add a different cam (thinking xe268)

option 3: put the vortecs on the original motor, run it as is until i gain the coins to have the machine work done to the other motor (clearancing for a 383 kit)

what do you guys think? on a pretty tight budget otherwise id just do the 383 right away.

anyguesses as to hp of any of the combos i mentoned?

I went with the xe268 cam and am very pleased with it. It makes good power off idle and continues through the rpms. My setup makes a lil more power than your hoping to (around 400-410 at the crank is our guess) but Ive got Dart iron eagle platinum heads.

I think you could make 320-330 horsepower with that cam and the setup youve got nor problems

    Have fun!

Put the Vortec heads on it, and go with cam in the 440-460 lift range as this is about all you do without having a coil bind issue, and for other reasons this cam is about max for this setup. Down the road, invest in a 383 or if your car is light weight, a well built 350 with alum. heads, and you will have it. The best you will see in hp with the 350 you have now and due to other limitations, is about 285-300 hp The Vortec heads will have one thing about them that you will like and it is that they have very impressive bottom end power compared to anything prior to there creation.
