Come up with a gear set for a Muncie that has 2.52 first , 1.52 second , 1-1 3rd and a .80 4th. Prolly can’t but ya I don’t wanna spend 3500 bucks to get a .82 od.!!! Okay ya I’ll stop dreaming.. be cool tho huh

I just talked to the "go-to gear guy" in this area about the same thing. He basically laughed and said yeah, rub a lamp.

    Lamp was rubbed sort of.
A833 transmission is what you search for.
Mopar used them as they came up with it and much later around 1980 GM had stuck some into trucks.
Research it and I will say it is a pretty strong transmission.
    Yea later ones have OD.

Then google A833 behind a Chevy.

My uncle got one at Pull-a-part it was pulled and laying right beside a car and no one around anywhere.
He pulled the side cover and everything looked perfect. $75
It was then stuck into his 1967 340 powered Barracuda He got 27 MPG on one leg going back to Oregon from Oklahoma said it was coming out of the mountains.
    His normal MPG was 22-24.
All timing in by cruise RPM and Ran the Carter 9000 series 625 carb with rear jets swapped into the front.

I really like that 340 Engine.
.73 or .71 for OD Ratio

Interesting, I was hunting around a few years ago and ran into articles about the A833, too. But I didn't want to give up the close ratio spacing of the T10 in my Z28. It would probably just be easier to drop the axle ratio down from 3.73 to 3.42.

Thanks, Jeff. Gonna look into that. I also had a 340 Dart and loved it.

Autogear used to make something like that - I think it was called the M22X. They had durability issues and stopped production.

However, they have the M22Z and the M23Z that have a 2.98/2.99 first gear with a 2.04/2.25 2nd, a 1.47 3rd and a 1:1 4th gear. Just change your rear end gear to higher (lower numerically) ratio and you can effectively get what you want.

After putting the 462 in my GTO back in 2013, I changed the rear gear from 3.42 to 3.08 in 2015 or 2016 with the plan to eventually put an M22Z or M23Z in. Haven't done it yet, but I think it might happen over the winter.

Both trannies are brand new with the Autogear Supercase.

Either transmission will be about half the price of a 5spd overdrive with all the parts you need to complete the conversion. Being a Muncie design, they bolt right up...

Screw that crap, I just put a T-56 in my car with 2 overdrives, best thing I ever did for cruzing around. 1700 RPM at 70 MPH is great.

I hear ya just spend the money. I could get that deep first and considering it. I was just looking at the drag set up, the 2.98 is what I need with cam I got. It gets me close to 4.11s with my 3.70s. It hasn’t been a issue with 3.70s and cam so far tho.

I have the GTO T-56 with the 2.97 low gear, it's useless with 4.10 gear and short tires. I now have 3.55's but if I do some engine changes next year to the Vortec 350 in there I may put the deeper gear back in.

If you do any driving on the highway and have the $, go straight to an overdrive 5 or 6 speed. It just cannot be beat. I am still dreaming about getting one.
    My $0.02.
