After my nanny systems post, I found a lot of people are like me in not caring to be coddled. I've been thinking that something that used to be an option, became standard and now is disappearing. The day night function is going away on rear view mirrors. Back in the 50's, a night setting was an option. By the 60's, it was on all the cars and most of the trucks. My 2000 Cadillac Escalade doesn't have a night setting on the inside mirror. Lot's of buttons, but no night setting. the girlfriends 2015 Equinox doesn't have it and the 2018 Nissan I rented recently didn't have it either.

The Cadillac has heavily tinted windows from the kid before me and that helps. I've found my elderly eyes don't handle bright lights at night like they used to. I wonder why the night setting isn't put on cars anymore? My '99 F150 has it.

Auto dimming most likely, but at 18 years old, may have quit working. To your point, though, I'm not sure if it's your old eyes, or that over the years, headlights have gotten REALLY bright. Ridiculously so. Definitely harder to deal with than it used to be, and it's not (just) because I'm getting older.:)

After some of the replies, I looked around on the internet and it has to be turned on. With a rental and the girlfriends car, I've never looked at the manual and the Cadillac doesn't have one. I found one on Fleabay so when it gets here, I may find out different. There are a bunch of buttons there and I have no ide what some of them are. Onstar is obvious, the rest less so.

My '99 Grand Prix has auto dim. It failed and I put a parts store cheapie on while I sent it off for repair. On these if the fluid leaks out you can kiss your dash goodbye (I got lucky and caught it in time). Guy on the internet makes a pretty good living repairing these (many on high end cars). Couple hundie for new glass and a circuit board. I don't EVEN wanna know the stealership price! Been fine ever since. The '05 GP has a flip lever. Guess they had problems with the auto dim ones...

At 54, I'll take all the coddling I can get!:lush: And the sooner all cars drive themselves - the better.
People driving cars use to be Ok, now with the Me First/Entitlement/Cell phone Society we have, that's no longer the case.
I'll risk technology over a human driver any day.
