3 guys go into a coffe shop and order each a coffe
coffe cost ten cents a cup so they give the waitress 30 cents
the manger comes and and says those guys are my buddies give them back a 5 cents.
the waitress takes 5 cents out of the till and gives each guy 1 cent each back.since there was 2 cents left they told her to keep the tip.
SO THAT MEANS THEY PAID 9 CENTS FOR THE COFFEE
    3 COFFEES X 9 CENTS =27 +THE 2 CENT TIP=29 WERE DID THE OTHER PENNY GO??

The tax on a cup of coffee is more than 10 cents.

each person paid $.09 after receiving $.01 back.
so they paid a total of $.27 for the coffee
but after the manager gives the discount, the coffee bill is only $.25
so the waitress gets the other $.02

It's not $.30 - $.27, but rather the total they paid, $.27 - the total coffee bill $.25

    $.27 - $.25 = $.02

the question makes you think about it in a way that makes you think a penny is lost.

When they got back 5 cents it actually left them with 26 cents. So techically they paid 8.9 cents per cup.

It depends on who you ask..... Popular answers might include the following:

The missing penny was an illusion based on overly optimistic market value speculation and never really existed in the first place.

It hooked up with the chicken and crossed the road.

Obama took it. (He wanted change.)

Bush spent it before it was even minted.

It was lost through the Federal reserve revaluation of the dollar.

    Pat Robertson saved it.

    Most likely.......
The guys paid a dime each and the waitress kept the nickel.
(Because those three old buzzards have stiffed her a tip ever since coffee cost a nickel!)

    ;)
