Does anyone know the exact font type for the blue sticker with the VIN on it inside the door for a '74? I hear "IBM 2" a lot, but this isn't a specific font type. I know it was an IBM type that was used, but don't know the font. Any help is appreciated; my original was removed by a non detail-oriented bodyman who failed to save it after I specifically asked for it to be saved.

Thanks, this is very helpful, but still looking for the name of the font so I can either buy a typewriter myself (with the correct font ball in it) or have someone else do it for me, while I at least know the correct font type so there is no confusion. Thanks again.

Get a really high resolution photo from another car with the shot perfectly straight on and lit properly. Take it to a photo retouch shop and they should be able to reproduce it with your info substituted. Then find a good print shop to print it on the right paper or decal stock..

I made a template a few years ago and I'm pretty sure I found a replicated font. I don't remember the name, but I will look it up. That looks fairly similar to the one from my 78 so I'm sure they are the same.

Maybe 73 font was different....it is not really like the 74 label font .....see the

"FRT " in particular ....the letters are not the same type.

Maybe it's just the difference in year......

The font is a type of old computer I thought I heard ...?

Most all I ve seen the originals ink is lighter or faded .....repops are really bright , maybe different ink.?

To tell if it's a real GM label is easy. You need to look at the text on the blue label
itself (not the typed date and VIN) and look from one line to another and see which
letter lines up over top each other or how close they are from line to line.

    I.E.
    - line 2 word STANDARDS, the first S is over top of line 3 letter C in MANUFACTURE.
    - Last S is STANDARDS is over top of the letter O is SHOWN.

Dates were typed differently in the two Plants.
    Norwood date 5/70 and
    LA date 05-70
