interesting will for check that that connection thank you
One on tail shaft should be metal, it's the "driver". Driven gear will be nylon/plastic.
Plastic driven gear is super easy to replace. Any transmission shop that has been around for a while may have a box full of the old plastic gears. The shop I went to did. Didnt even charge me for it. Just get the same colour gear and swap it in.
This is assuming yours is bad.. however, look closely at it. At first glance, it may look ok, but on close inspection, if you see a concave profile in the middle of the teeth where the drive gear mates up, that is the problem.
my Z is stock 350/4-speed/383 rear end so
nice---tnx My1979 Z is stock 350/4-speed 383 rear end So drive gear shouldn't be to hard to match up---yes?
Those plastic gears are available ebay and other places. 3.73 gears makes sense, 3.83 I never heard of ( typo?) a cordless drill on the inner cable at the tranny as suggested will reveal if its a trans problem, keep in mind if the needle isnt moving, you may have to reverse the drill. There are many combos with the gearing so you may need one of these. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1430306333...l8hv3LIjIzOGIuwIgKaEtTlHXY2B0lOQaAkzBEALw_wcB
thx, and yes--typo- 3.83
You can drive down the road with the speedo cable in your hand to see if its spinning. If the cop pulls you over you may have a good story.
I would totally let you off for that.
