I'm not troubleshooting. Looking for advice on Spintech low profile mufflers and PTFB Springs as I want to purchase these by Monday. I want to get rid of scraping the road and give it a better driving feel. Headers don't seem to be scraping.

1979 Z28. Car use is just normal driving. Never will see a track - car is factory with A/C and headers. Tires are factory spec P235/60R15 Coopers. The fender now is about even as you can get with the top of the tires front and rear. Oddly enough the leaf springs are 3 leaf. What car config did these normally come on?

Muffler question. Looking for a muffler that is not too loud but I do like a rumble - no drone, would like to easily talk driving down the road. I will have exhaust all the way to the rear soon. So, looking at the Spintech 3000XLF that are 3" thick - $360 for two. What is your opinion on this? Should I go with another Spintech that is 3" thick? Engine is stock and not raced - high flow not needed but I'd like it to flow reasonably well. Any other brand recommendations that are low profile/cheaper/better? Do I need to go 3"?

For springs I am looking at the PTFB GT Kit w/o shocks 2CS-420 - $649. For those with this kit, is the spring rate such that it doesn't squat down on the road a lot and scrape bottom on imperfections in the road at speed limit? The roads are not flat even in the city - mildly rough in a 4x4 that is my DD - these humps can kill lower cars.

Thoughts on either one? Good to go for the money?

Edit, I do not have cooper's. BFG doh

Thanks for the advice,

I used the Pypes SGF11S X pipe exhaust kit on my 70. It was an excellent fit with the Spin Tech 3000 muffler’s. I had them leave 2 baffles out of my muffler’s. Great sound not to loud at cruising speeds. The ball and socket collectors on my Hedman headers and Pypes kit made for an easy installation.

One racer at our local track runs Spin tech mufflers with 3.5" pipes all the way to rear and has 2 Walker bullet mufflers at the end of the car. He runs 9.60"@146mph with his 632 BBC and his car is super quiet going down the track.

Is that Pypes all the way out the rear? I got the cheapo Summit kit a few years ago and the after muffler pipes just didn't fit

I see that kit is out the back. I can't weld SS. Would prefer steel

I have the Summit dual exhaust kit on my 80. It has generic turbo mufflers. If I was to go out and buy just mufflers I would go with Dyno Max turbo mufflers. Less than $50 each. Mild steel.
I just looked at my 80 and the bottom of the muffler is at about the same level as the bottom of my sub-frame connectors.

The Pypes kit can be bought in mild steel also. I bought it in stainless and stainless mufflers and used band clamps in case I ever needed to remove sections.

I polished the stainless tail pipes.
