No new snow here just way below seasonal temps. Snow taking forever to melt. But I guess it’s better than a major dump of new snow.

My snowblower put in as many hours this Winter as my lawn mower puts in during the Summer. And, it did an awesome job with the 8 feet of snow I got. The sad part is that it isn't quite done yet. There is another big snowstorm forecast for next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Three cheers for my 26 year old MTD snowblower for a job well done.

Getting real tired of this stuff.

Power was out for a while last night and there are many more outages.

Got several more busted limbs in my yard too.

The Korean lilac, that was just planted last year, is broken too.
(Next to the snowman.)

We are getting hit hard here again. Started overnight, coming down like crazy now and supposed to all day/night.

83 year old neighbour dropped off his blower which looks to be as old as him. Looks like it needs another electric starter. 2nd one for him in 10 years. He cant pull the cord, so needs the push button. I have a cache of used parts from junked blowers.

MTD is great. Almost every major brand is made by MTD. Parts are mostly interchangeable which is nice.

National Weather Service here said this morning that this is the first time in recorded history that Bismarck has failed to get up to 40 degrees anytime in the month of March. March daily temp averaged -15.4 degrees from normal, so it also might be the coldest March ever recorded here.

We got a bunch of broken branches, and a few downed trees, from the ice storm and then 10 inches of heavy wet snow last month. It will probably take me most of the spring and summer to get them all cleaned up. But hopefully the ice and snow are done for this season. Lots of rain the last week here.

As hard as it is for me to cheer because of the snow, you’ve got a good machine.

I have 2, A 2005 model craftsman (by mtd) that I bought used but very lightly by an older guy that I worked with. I’ve had it for 7 years now and it’s been worked HARD. It is not made for northern winters.

And now I have THE MUTANT. 1985 model snowflite. I picked it up not running from my wife’s grandfather. 10hp 26”. It’s a true mutant. A combinations of parts from 4 different decades. I swapped in a different engine, (no not a bbc haha) changed pulleys around and different belts etc. used the Shute and controls off a late 90’s mtd, it’s a monster. MONSTER. Easily out weighs the newer one by 100lbs. As such it doesn’t tend to climb. With the added rpm of the pulley change the 2nd stage really chucks the snow and the low primary this thing doesn’t bog down even in the heavy heavy wet crap we got last night. 1st time in the 7 years we’ve been on the house today was the first time I’ve ever seen the plows out at 5am. Hell I’ve gone to work and come back 10 hours later and still our towns not plowed or even started. But that’s a different issue.
The mutant ate that heavy wet already plowed and packed snow like it was idling in the garage. Chucked it 25 feet way up into the yard.

The killer for snowblowers is vibration. Little one lunger engine mounted solid to chassis, they shake everything loose if you dont keep an eye on everything and tighten as needed.

Drive issues are almost always the drive belt tension. The cable attached to the drive hand control stretches a bit, the belt wears a bit and presto, no drive... 1 minute adjustment on the cable and all is well.
