L31 block - Got the bottom end clearanced yesterday and probably going to run with stock GM roller lifters - Ive read of ppl running around .530 with them, I have beehive springs that will be matched and installed at correct height with comp 5/16 pushrods.. Aiming for just near 500hp at 6500 max, this is just a street machine doing short trips..

The cam (comp XR288) is .540 lift on the exhaust -

anyone run the stock lifters in a 383 in a regular cam (not small base circle)?

    Option 2 is LS7 lifters -

Forgot to add this is an L31 block - yours too? saw a hotrod dyno test with one cam down from mine on stock roller lifters- near 500hp.. so think i should be ok- oem GM L31 lifters are good - not sure about pumping up tho-

I am running a Howards roller cam and 1.6 ultra pro magnum rockers totalling 600/610 lift and so far no issues but I haven't revved it yet since its a new motor and currently having carb issues.

Thats what I read too but as long as the cam isn't a small base circle it seems to be working. I rotated the engine over many times with the intake off to make sure they didn't drop below the dogbones and didn't lift them when at max lift. Lobe lift on my cam is .373/.380 so lifter only moves that distance too.

My 383 is an L31 block, stock roller lifters, .530/.545 stock base circle Howard's cam. 3 years now, lots of 6300 rpm shifts, no problems.

I was picky on measuring the rocker pattern and needed very slightly shorter pushrods, but my deck surface had been milled and I used new aluminum heads. Lifter preload set at 1/2 turn past zero lash.
