Strange sensor (?) on head, 73 small block

Getting started on an engine project, wondering what this sender is for. Just curious, never seen this one. On the head in an accessory bolt hole. Can't figure what this would sense or control. Anyone know? 400 small block out of a Caprice I think.

Looks like a knock sensor.(Spark knock).

i built a 400 small block bored 30 over stuck a nice cam in it and let me tell you that thing is a beast View attachment 152073

That's one good looking Camaro. That blue really works with that car. We used to call that Corvette blue.

Thanks for the reply. I think we got it figured out, low temp. cutout switch for the AC compressor.

about cleaning that heavy sludge --- nowadays, many shops also have capability to "bake and blast" iron blocks & heads. That works so well I can't tell the result from new raw iron. Nothing else I've seen cleans oil galleries and coolant passages as well.
