I have a 1973 camaro that I recently converted from auto th350 to st10 4 speed. The transmission came with an ITM shifter. I believe it is from a 1977 f body.

I want to change the shifter to a hurst. Will I be able to use the shift rods and mounting bracket from the ITM shifter, or will I need the Hurst installation kit? The part numbers from hurst I've found are 3918794 for the shifter. 3738609 for the installation kit. Or 13-0078 for a combo kit.

Are these the correct part numbers since my transmission is from 1977?

Well back in ‘81 I was curious to see if an ITM shifter would fit my 70 Z28 Muncie. It did but it came back out cause it’s a terrible shifter.

For some reason it is extremely difficult to shift into reverse. Feels loose and worn out. Does anyone know if the part numbers I posted on the first post are correct for a new Hurst shifter?

It sounds like the center shaft bolt is not tight enough, back in the day mine was so sloppy that one time I shifted out of reverse and into first and the transmission was still in first.

After speaking with a customer service representative from Holley he suggested the Hurst street super shifter shifter along with an install kit. The kit comes with what you need to adopt to a muncie or borg warner trans. The part numbers are 3917535 and 3738616. I had cut the transmission tunnel a little bigger then what I did for the old shifter. The shifter sits up high and is closer to the driver. The shift rods are straight and the only one that had some clearance was the 3-4 rod. I ordered an offset stick because the one it comes with puts your hand too close to the dash. Other than that the shifter works great, feels tight and super close between gears.
