Why not just transfer the good parts from the 78 to the 79 and skip the heavy body work?

I am concidering that but I prefer the 78 dash and the 79 doesn’t have as much curb appeal lol. Is there threads here of guy swapping from the 79-81 dash to the 70-78?

The entire dash can be swapped.
There is one extra piece on the 79-81 dash attached to the upper, metal part of the dash.

Remove that piece and the 78 dash should bolt in.

The gauge clusters are a bit different so you will need to swap them also.
(Due to the bezel redesign and turn signal indicator relocation.)

I think it's a better move than cutting up both cars and attempting to weld the back half of one to the front of the other.

As long as you don't be tempted to turn the 79 in to a 78 "paperwork wise" swapping parts makes more sense. Or look for a better, cheap (cough, cough) 78 body ???
