Best thing to do is find one at a transmission shop in your area, with a guarantee, or find a used one an have it rebuilt. Then you’ll need a torque converter that’s right for your needs. A trans shop wi help you with that.

I'm running Rossler Transmission on mine.
Full reverse manual with brake and J.W. Ultra-Bell bellhousing.
TC is Neal Chance.

this is where I got my TH350 from .... http://www.mikestransmission.com/

This shop is very well known racing transmission builder in the Southwest . I'm running one of his Ultimate racing transmissions , It's a TH350 with a full manual reverse body and Pro Tree Transbrake. It also has some Billet components including clutch drums , input and output shafts . I also have one his 4500 stall converters and was spec'd to my 427sbc . The transmission and converter are rated to 1500hp and was only $3500

I've got a friend of mine who's running a TH400 from Mikes transmission and no issues

Opinions are like A holes but a rebuilt 4L80e is as strong as a th400 plus you get a 4th gear & overdrive. Down side is you have to use a trans controller an possibly a shorter driveshaft.

the 4th gear is the OD... they're basically the same transmission and equally strong, one has the overdrive and heavier but in stock configuration neither one will be happy behind a healthy BBC making an honest 700+hp without any modification. Shock load is your enemy here. Also, an exploding drum and shrapnel going through the floor board and possibly taking out your go pedal foot is not pretty.

a 700 hp capable TH400 is a no brainer any decent local transmission shop with a decent rep. can tackle that.

Ive seen many stock TH400 with only a budget shift kit survive 700 hp and about 550-600 tq
