Will I damage my trans by starting from a stop in 3rd gear? Car has a lot of torque and seems useless to be starting in 2nd or 1st. Just don't want to damage the trans in anyway.

    Manual valve body, I assume.

    What rear gears?

Maybe you should install a Power Glide so you only have to shift once.

Rear gears are 3.23 and it is a manual valve body. Stall is like 3500 or so it has no acceleration problems

I would say (so not 100% sure): no problem. But I'm also assuming that the trans was built for this power level with dual fed direct and raised pressure to hold the clutches together.

    800-1000hp I guess?

Is the constant shifting getting to be a nuisance, what shifter is on the car?

My opinion here....probably won't do much damage, as they are made to "slip" anyhow. From what I believe, it may add more heat to the situation though,

I drive a TH400, 3000 stall, manual valve body with 3:90's, and understand what you mean. It is a bit of a pig starting off in third gear though, and just imagine it to be worse with the lower gears that you have.

You need to figure out your traction issue first.
With drag radials I can hook up my much rowdier 489 big block and 3.73s.

I don't even understand why the question was asked. Doesn't make sense. One of the reasons for the manual valve body is to shift it manually. I mean really, its not that difficult to just nudge the shifter an inch or two. Not wanting to shift is really not that strenuous of a task. If its that big of an issue then take out the manual valve body and put an auto one back in.
