Getting ready to put a TCI tranny in & was wondering about the driveshaft. Does it need to be shortened? I know I need a different yoke. Also do I need to change the cross member? Any info would be appreciated!

yes and yes. Driveshaft needs 3/4" taken out (shorter) that is if you are going from a th350 short tail (or 4 speed) to a 400 short tail. the xmember is a little bit different. 2 ways to do this. Depends on YOUR garage. 1. buy a 400 x-member---$150 ish. 2. Take yours and CUT the mount off (the little "shelf") and weld it onto the rear of the x-member. works out the 3.25" difference. Either way should net a x-member that bolts to the frame in its original location, hieght ...blah, blah...

you could get a 400 cross member for alot cheaper than $ 150.00. Less hp to turn.

Try the shaft before you have yours cut.

When I put the 400 in my 79, I was planning on having it cut as well, but I didn't need to.
