Thanks for the notes 78cd and BlueByU!

Been making a little more progress on the interior. For Father's Day I got a gift from the family I have had my eye on for awhile....an original Delco AM/FM 8-Track Stereo with aux input for the Camaro. So, back into the lower dash, hadn't had enough fun with that when I did the heater core LOL! Here's the way it was with the original radio holes cut out for the aftermarket unit that was in it when I got the car:

Lower dash removed. Note, if you are going to take the lower dash out and reinstall a new one with the passenger seat in be ready for some back bending flexibility laying upside down to get those screw removed!

I rewired everything back to the original 3 quick connects to fit the back of the original radio. Powered it up and noticed the front speaker wasn't working. To get to that speaker you have to take out the big duct. Here's what I found, no wonder it didn't work! Probably a reason they invented cup holders for cars, years of spilled gunk, dust, bugs, etc. had fallen through the speaker vent and toasted it.

So got to thinking....:brightideI just replaced a set of speakers in my F150 since the driver's side one was blown. The passenger side one was still good and I had stashed it away. I wonder if that will fit....with a little elbow grease it worked!

Got everything back together today, with only two screws left over. Not bad for me.

Oh, and last but certainly not least this weekend, restocked the beer fridge with a fresh 30 pack of PBR!!

That's an old post PF. Mutley must have been digging in the build thread and posted it up for some reason. Anyway, brought back some good memories for me, not sure I could wiggle under that dash anymore without pulling or throwing something out of whack (on me that is)

In the spirit of never being done with one of these restorations...the air cleaner assembly has been bothering me for a while now. I think the one I had put on was from a late '78 and '79 year production. https://nastyz28.com/threads/the-fast-forester-1978-z-28.158017/page-19.

It's really hard to find these snorkel tubes, let alone in one piece, so I found some 4" round tubing and took a mallet to it to make it oval. And found an original intake duct from the early '78 Z's on e-bay and here we go. Not the best fit in the world but I like it.

Not too much PF, once I get our landscaping rush at our new place out of the way I plan to give the Z some attention. I can't figure out a coolant leak I have, puddles up on top of the front of the manifold after I take it out for a spin. I rented one of the pressurizers from the auto parts store but could not get it to leak. I've cut fresh ends on the usual suspect hose connections to no avail. I'm thinking thermostat housing but why wouldn't that leak under pressure?

I'm going to start rebuilding quadrajets again too, that has gone on the backburner while we built this place. I've got a 350 engine stand to run them on after rebuilding now, and I plan to get an ultrasonic cleaner. We'll see if that ups my game on the Q-jets. Maybe nobody wants them anymore...?

Thanks for bumping my thread up, it has been awhile!

Damn leaks. Always frustrating to solve, good luck with it. I have one vehicle left with a Q-jet... my '86 beater RV with a 454. I put headers on it, and always meant to re-jet the carb, but that's above my pay grade. When you get back up and going, I'll bring it to you.
