So - the consumer bought a truck (that I wouldn't recommend), apparently did no research, on what he would need to do to own it. The truck than cost him more money than he expected.
Than he took a trip he could have easily researched on a million free sites to find out how to best do... apparently didn't research and it went poorly.

I see a pattern developing...

For the record, I think pickup trucks are a terrible application for EV's. The Ford Lightning is stupid, so is the Hummer. So is anything else that weigh's over 8000 lbs as a street car.

The way I read it is he had a plan but two chargers being out of service basically stranded him because he was in a very rural part of the country with no other chargers in range.

Earth......?
We have similar issues here in my neck of the woods - tourists helpless looking for charging stations - only slow ones around.....have to drive an additional 50 miles for a quick charge station.....plenty of gas stations around though :)

If a person is in a large city in a warm climate and simply commutes back & forth to work then I believe an EV would be great. But I believe they’d be useless for any distance driving such as a vacation a few provinces or states over. At least as things stand now. As technology advances that will no doubt change.

Here's the route plan (note the slightly faster route as well)-

But here's the thing. There are very few DC fast chargers along that route-

-and if you check them out on Plugshare, most of those are a SINGLE charger, and listed at 50kW or 62.5kW- which means F150 is sitting for an hour to get 100-120 miles of range back. If you know ANYTHING at all about the state of DC fast charging right now, this is a BAD idea from the start. Fargo looks ok, every other stop... not so much.
Contrast this with DC Metro area (which is zoomed in compared to above scale, so the network was better seen)-

Nearly all major metros look like this.

Summary- it's going to be sketchy driving an EV through the middle of nowhere for a few more years. But for the majority of us who don't do that, EVs work just fine.

You will not get your $ back on a hybrid either. If the batteries die and can’t charge, they will cost more than the vehicle to replace. Happened here on CTV News. Scam scam scam.

Exactly my point. Most people, at least in the midwest dont vacation where their trip travels thru major cities. As a matter of fact I do my best to avoid them.

I would also agree that his plan probably wasnt a good one from the get go but there are a lot of people out there that arent real bright in this day and age... EV's definitely have there place for those that live in metropolitan areas. I could get by on one for my daily work vehicle as long as I could charge at home and I am on the fringe of St. Louis metro. As far as I am aware the closest public charger is 20+ miles from my house still. But to say they are for everyone at this point as the media and politicians like to push is quite the stretch IMO.

So I wanted to validate my statement about chargers to make sure that I wasnt oblivious to them on my daily commute. Red star is roughly where I live and all the chargers are at least a 30 minute drive away. Also notice the lack of chargers to the north and west of me.
