tire scrubbing issue

i have 71 ss 396 which is stock except for 15 inch z28 wheels instead of 14 rally;s. When i bought car, the existing goodrich t/a's were toast. i replaced with Cooper Cobra gt 245/60 r15. Ride quality and stance is good except that front tires are rubbing the inner fender well on turning and large bumps. Obviously, the solution is a smaller front tire ( or return to 14's which i dont wish to do) Any suggestions on the right size 15 inch in front to maintain a stock look but solve the issue. What are the rest of you running?

Any specs on the wheels that are on it? Do you know what the back spacing is? Those 245 tires "should" fit without any rubbing issues if you have the proper back space.

Good friend of mine has 245/60-15's on 15x8 Corvette Rally wheels with a 4.25 back spacing all the way around his 81 Z28 and he has no rubbing issues anywhere. The 235/60-15 was a very popular size as well and many people ran those on these cars before the 17" and larger wheel trend started.

I have a similar setup on my SS350. I'm using 15x7 Z28 wheels and BFG 245-60 tires. It is a close fit up front, but I don't have any tire contact. Your car being a big block is likely sitting a bit lower than mine. Also, your tires being a different brand could be a bit larger.
A little additional height on the front or using 235-60 tires would likely fix it.

Sounds like your front springs are lower than stock. Others are using the 245-60-15 tires and only rub on a full locked turn.

Cooper Cobra makes a 215-65-15 that will solve that. The ideal size would be a 225-60-15 like I have on my front.....but your Cooper doesn't come in that size Only Radial T/A

I have a 71 clone 383, Z28 w/ Cooper 215/65-15 and have no issues. Make sure the front wheel is offset properly as well.

I don’t have any issues on either of mine running 225 70r15’s which was the factory size for my z28’s. your front shocks or springs could be worn out or like others have said the backspacing could be off.
