TKX Conversion kits

So Ive been searching the forum's and there has not been discussion about this for a while.

What I have learned
1. Stay away from American Powertrain
2. Hursts Conversion kits were great but I don't see that particular site anymore. (I think you can still purchase everything separately?)
3. Bowler has the best customer service out of them all.

I don't see much about Silver sport so Im not sure if they are worth looking at or not.

I am going to be doing some of the work myself and have a real shop actually install the transmission in.

Has anyone used any of these companies?

Oh btw, Im converting from a 700r4 to a TKX. I have not pulled my motor yet but do 71's already have the Clutch master cylinder hole already in the firewall but just blocked off if it was an Auto? Or will I have to cut that out myself?

Thanks.

I went with Silver Sport a few years ago for my TKO 600. It wasnt a conversion per se, as my car started life as a 4 speed car.
Talking with owner Jack Silver on the phone is what sold me. He answers calls and emails and is a real car guy. His staff are all dedicated and professional too. They know their products and are available for an quick call or email during install.
Mine had to go back for warranty work after install, they had it back to me (shipped from Canada to Tennessee and back to me) in less than 2 weeks.
Quality of all the parts in the kit was excellent.
Sorry, no idea if your car will have a hole or even a simple to indicate where the hole might go. But, I'm sure someone here will know.

Silver Sport here, new TR6060 with CF upgrades and gear change with upgrade shifter. I looked around, Silver Sport won out. Tech support, and they actually answered the phone and called me back. could not be happier with the trans and install instructions, and I'm the installer.

https://www.moderndriveline.com/ complete turn key transmission package from 1979 oem th350 to TKX 5 spd.....every single part in one box. Spoke with Shane McGoldrick......I have NOT installed this yet....but have gone back and forth extensively with information for a smoothe install, Shane has been excellent with info, input for ratios and final drive numbers and call backs. my simple input.

I just put a TKX in my 69 Camaro a few months ago from Silver sport. Their customer service was first rate as well as their instructions so it went very smoothly. I would definitely recommend them.

Just installed a TKX on my 76 (from Holley)... But just curious, what's the rub against American power? I purchased my supporting stuff from them without any issues. Clutch, flywheel, shifter reposition kit, and drive shaft... Just curious...

I read some people were saying that their customer service was not that great and that they were not trying to help people with their technical issues. Nothing as far as quality or anything like that. But the posts were from 2015-2017 so it was a while back.

Im just trying to figure out what the best option will be for me since Im trying to do it myself.

So I got a quote from SS and they are not bad actually. Cheaper than the rest. One thing I noticed is that they quoted me a Mcleod Steel flywheel which is internally balanced with a weight kit to make it external balanced. I can prob just upgrade this to a billet or aluminum thats already external without the added weight kit? Or do all flywheels need weight kits to make them external balanced?

Edit: Gene from SS called me back and we spoke about a few things. He told me they do that to save a little bit of cash but I can upgrade the flywheel if I wanted to. So far so good.

Ah, i did call them once on simple question... That said, I'm doing an LS swap and we test drove the car for the first time today... Just from the short test ride (very short - blew out the PS hose), the TKX behaved awesome. Shifted really smooth.

P.S. I ordered my TKX last fall for about 2500 bucks from Holley if that helps... Good luck!
