I have a '73 Z28. Has a stock turbo 350 and 308 gears. At 60 mph I turn 3000 rpm. Could my converter be bad? The rpm's seem way high for the gears. 26inch tall tires.
Cary, I think it's slipping, because my '79 Camaro had 308 gears & a 350 and I was taching 2800 at 70mph. I was burning up alot more gas then I should have been. So I swiched to 2:41 gears, now I'm at 2200 rpm's @ 70mph. So yeah, I think you have a problem. Could be the converter or trans.
Mike
That's what I'm thinking. I know the tach can be off but the engine is screaming at 65mph. I have a '71 C10 and it doesn't sound as wound up at 70 as the Z at 60. I know it's not a perfect comparison but makes me think somethings not right. The transmission seems to shift fine. That's why I'm thinking converter. I just have never had this issue so I'm not sure.
