Transmission temp

Yesterday I drove my Camaro to and from a car show maybe 20 miles round trip in 98° temps plus the humidity was making it even worse . Was watching my gauges due to the warm ambient air temps and noticed my transmission temp was only showing 140° to as warm as 160° at stoplights

Is that to cold of temp ?? , my engine temp was 185 -190 deg . I'm running a B&M stacked plate cooler # 70274 which is their largest at 13" x 11.5" and rated at 29k btu's . The transmission is a competition built TH350 with Reverse manual valve body , Pro tree Transbrake and a 4500 stall converter . I'm reading temps from the converter out port from the transmission . The only time I've ever seen very warm transmission temps was a few years ago when I lived in the High Desert . That was a 112° day and transmission temps were near 200°

When I worked in a tranny shop I was told that it is virtually impossible to overcool a transmission. (under normal non artic operation) I always ran stacked plate coolers on all my street/strip and track only cars. Last car had ATI full manual TH400 with a 4800 stall and 700+hp engine and I don't recall my fluid ever exceeding 200 degrees.

^^^^ Yep, too cold hardly exists for a transmission..... except for the time when I was on exercise in the nordic area and we had to warm the the transmission oil with a hand held burner every morning to get the vehicles running....

140-160 is GREAT considering the converter your running! I can drop tranny temp by 20* in my truck just by backing off of the car in front of me in city traffic. My 4r70w in my f150 runs anywhere from 150-200 in town on a hot day. (similar cooler stuff added) but can drop and stay around 150 IF I simply hold the gear changes and put space between forward car and me...definitely while sitting at a light.

I'm running the B&M cooler standalone on my 4L65 with 2800 stall 10 inch, street only. Was running 225 with the radiator cooler, moved to the B&M and it's been about 180. I think up to 220 isn't bad but much hotter starts cooking the fluid.
