    I have a 73 TYPE LT.
Vin shows a Apr-May build date.
    Trim tag says late Dec.
    Can anyone tell me why?
All other trim tag info is correct.

Are you sure the VIN tag and trim tag are originally from the same car? Without a lot of digging, it is often difficult to determine if a car has been messed with. One way would be to get into the heater area of the firewall and look for the hidden VIN to see if it matches the VIN tag on the car.

Another possibility is that the original trim tag was lost along the way and a previous owner decided to have a reproduction tag made up. If he didn't have the original information and the reproduction company put the wrong information on the new tag, it wouldn't match the car. This is a problem when reproduction tags are put on a car. Nobody has the 100% correct information to reproduce one if you don't have the original one to copy.

I have never seen that big of a discrepancy. I doubt that both tags were born on the same car. One other thing might be to look at the body number on the trim tag but there isn't much to reference on. If I were buying the car this would be a red flag for me.

He posted his VIN on Facebook and it is a 12C car. The vin was the 17344th car built for 73.

Makes more sense someone swapped the VIN tag over the Trim tag...not that its the case here, but amazing how people don't realize what can happen in 50 years...

Does the vin on the upper left of the dash match the VIN on the sticker on the drivers door? That sticker should have a build date on it. If they match then you’ll know the firewall tag under the hood is amiss.

My 73Z is 01E (5th week of January 1973) according to the trim tag, but my VIN door sticker has 2/73.

That makes sense. The 5th week of January would have some January days and some February days. The sticker was printed a day or two after the trim tag was stamped so they add up.
