http://www.foxnews.com/entertainmen...er-for-metal-band-pantera-dies-at-age-54.html RIP... we lost another one last night.....
Yeah - I'm bummed. IMHO Vinnie Paul was the most skilled metal drummer that ever lived. There are other guys who can go faster, but no one played metal with more "musicality" This sound would have been horrible with your typical -snare-snare-snare-snare-snare-snare-snare-snare metal drummer Paul actually makes it swing in places.
That is sad news. - 54 is pretty young age. I grew up in the Dallas area and Pantera used to perform at a bar called Dallas City Limits. - We used to hang out there quite a bit as it was a great place to see live rock bands. I even remember Pantera as an opening act, glam/hair band back, and still have vivid memory of going up there one night and they had a new singer, along with a much harder sound and a pretty aggressive performance. Didn't take long for them to be the regular main attraction. - Absolutely great stuff with Phil on vocals. - That's sad to hear about Vinnie, used to see him out and about sometimes and he just seemed like a nice regular guy. --
My daughter called me after midnight to share the news. 54 is way to young. Rip Abbott brothers. They brought metal out of glame and into hard f'n rock.
One of my favorite heavy drummers. He knew the power of economy as well. He was stripping down beats to their basic ingredients long before anyone else thought of it.
Another rock legend gone too soon. I have all of Pantera's albums and rock them frequently. Vinnie Paul was one busy individual on the drums....never a dull moment.
Another part of my youth gone too soon. I would come home bruised, battered and happy from Pantera concerts
I have hearing loss because of Pantera concerts. In ‘01 I had seen them at the UIC Pavillion in Chicago, my ears rang for 2 days
