Volt gauge or AMP gauge for 1974?

Unless your goal is to have your car factory correct... I would leave the volt gauge in place.

A volt gauge makes more sense for a system with an alternator.

If you have a really old car with a generator... Use an Amp gauge.

Agreed. IMHO those little amp gauges are rather useless, much prefer a volt meter.

And the actual circuitry used for the amp gauge works on a voltage drop across a particular sized wire, probably not good for heavy loaded circuits we see today. I did put a voltage gauge on my 70 in place of the amp gauge.
