Hello, I was at the car the other day and started it up and revved it a few times because why not. When just pumping the gas quick, the engine seemed to skip a beat and stop for a second. Is this anything to be worried about? It doesn’t do it when I smooth into the rev a little better, this only happens when just stabbing the pedal for a split second. If this is an issue how do i fix it? Is it a timing problem?

attached (hopefully) is a video of the car revving, the first couple times you can hear it skip a beat, the last few it sounds better by smoothing the push instead of just stabbing the pedal.

how old is the gas in it?
could be a few things, the accelerator pump diaphragm and other gaskets tend to swell up or dry out if not in use or it could also be an electrical connection in the ignition, a loose or dirty plug or ground could cause this as well, I've even had the coil go bad just from sitting

Gas is new, filled the tank maybe 2-3 weeks ago, I haven’t rebuilt the carb myself but if I remember correctly some investigating showed it had been rebuilt previously as it has nylon needle and seats (edelbrock 1406 performer) It could also be that I have the accelerator pump set to much, might try putting it on a different level

Easy to adjust the cam on the accel pump on that carb, (I have the same one). Definitely warm it up, then take the air cleaner off and make certain the choke is off all the way. This could give you what you are hearing as well. Easy checks before you dive in any further.:bowtie:
