I dont road race, but my 383 has a Quick Fuel SS 750 4150 style with mechanical secondaries. I also have a power valve in the secondary metering plate which might be nice on a road race car.
Mech secondaries work nice with the manual trans.

I'm running a AED Competition series Holley 850 which is based off of a Holley Ultra XP series carburetor . AED built it to the specs of my 427sbc and has been wet flow dynoed to 975cfm

That's a very nice piece of work. And since you mentioned it, the XP seems to be pretty popular and has a reputation of being well built.

Yes , since the carb is built off of Holley's very popular XP series it already has a nice design

When i talked with AED they wanted engine specs , trans & converter specs , rear gear and tire size . They then said it would take them 3-4 weeks build time / dyno time to set the carb up for me . AED also mentioned all I needed to do when I received the carb was bolt it on and set fuel press to 6.5lbs

This is the best performing carb I've ever owned and to have almost a 1k cfm carb on my 427sbc is unreal . It's even worth the price I paid for it which was $1500

Whatever you decide on, considering the QC issues that every manufacturer seems to be plagued with, have a really good carb specialist go through the carb to make sure there are no flaws with casting or parts. No amount of tuning on a flawed piece will get you what you want.

I sent mine new in the box to G72Zed for his inspection and mods. Now I know any tuning screw ups are totally my fault. :)

I've built several, all were based on the "Holley" modular design, the billet centers are a little different.

What is the max rpm you are turning/shifting this 383 engine at, or what is the rpm you are making the most hp @ ? what type of intake manifold, induction and parts details make a difference. Car weight/trans gear/rear gear/tire setup?

Thanks, been trying to decide between those and Quickfuel or maybe a Brawler. So many different mfgto chose from these days.

Well, all of those names you mention are from the same basic place, along with 1/2 dozen other names in their vast portfolio. Now, the quality and options is the big variable, along with price point as well.

As the saying goes, the "devil is in the details" and finding out what is actually in them can get real expensive when you have to by a few of them just to try out what is needed and is most complimentary to your engine/car's combo.

Just like in engine building, the actual budget does dictate somewhat the type of carb build/parts you will most likely receive. Careful planning really helps you when getting the maximum improvement when upgrading your carburation program. Just my take on this.

I have had good luck with my FST carbs I bought in the last couple of years. Both of mine ran perfect out of the box.
