I still have my wifes old 2003 Durango we bought new. I kept it when I bought her new wheels 2 years ago. Its a SXT model with the 4.7 liter motor, 5 speed auto and 4x4. It has lived its whole life in the garage and is in excellent condition. 80,000 miles and not a single mechanical malfunction which is HIGHLY unusual for those vehicles. I drove it to work this morning busting through 3-4 foot deep drifts to get to the main road. She is a work horse and gets 13mpg whether you are pulling a car on a trailer or just hauling a 6-pack of beer!

Really? My friend just got rid of his last year because it kept leaving them broke down and nickle and dimeing him to death. Even the harmonic balancer was plastic and flew apart and took out the A/C lines. That was just one of many issues they had.

Ours has been our 98 K2500 truck we used for work daily towing a landscape trailer full of commercial mowers and on the weekends towing one of our cars to the track, shows or to the beach for cruise weekends. We also plowed with it in the winters. Has over 200K now. Intake gaskets, brake lines, battery, alternator, radiator, brake pads are the only things we have done to it. Still has the original fluid in the 4L80E.

1998 Ford escort. 150,000 miles and runs great. Does not burn any oil and does not leak any oil. I can't stand the car but it will not die. Gets great gas mileage to.

I have bought three Dodge/Chrysler products and all three have left me stranded with transmission problems. I worked pt at a shop for a few years and the Dodge and Chrysler vans were in all the time for every kind of clunking sound you could imagine. Try changing a waterpump in one of them. You have to pry the motor over to the side to get the pump out.

Back in 2000 I bought a 69 pontiac catalina 2dr hardtop with 55000 miles that served as my daily ride. Even after dropping the boat to just 2.5 inches off the ground she never got stuck in the snow. The 400 2bbl had fuel injection reliability and ease of starting in even 20deg temps and a heater that put all my other vehicles to shame. Only problems I had was a blown fuse that left alternator not charging, and ac compressor locked up one day on the highway but funny thing is it never skipped a beat nor did belt break, just finally noticed smell and smoke from the fiber on front of cherry red ac clutch.

My most reliable cars were my 91 Tauras SHO and my 88 Mustang GT. Both went 250k+ miles and never one minute in the shop. (other that 2 clutches in the SHO) The mustang had the original clutch in it when I sold it.
I've had 3 Hyundai's that were flawless to.

Worst vehicle was a 2004 GMC Envoy. That was the biggest piece of S*** I've ever seen. I dont even know where to start.

I think almost every car made these days if maintained properly will go 200k +

The Dakota was the only Dodge vehicle I have ever owned. It only had a 3.9 in it, but it had a non OD trans., equivilent to the 727 torqueflights. You simply couldnt hurt that tranny. Gas mileage sucked though, about 13-15max. It was a well built vehicle. My mom had a Voyager that had probably 6 transmissions in it in 150,000 miles.

People used to laugh at my Aveo, and still do but f'em, but its still going. No frills though. A/C and a rear wiper. No power windows or locks. I put a HD radio in it a few years ago, do the scheduled maintenence , keep good tires on it, and dont run the crap out of it. I drive it fast on the interstate, but not hard. I've been really impressed by it because all it really is, is a re-badged Daewoo Kalos. Which by the way, Chevy really dropped the ball by not keeping the same front clip as the Kalos. The Kalos looked much more aggressive, not so "happy". I almost imported one from Canada years ago. It could have been a direct bolt on deal, even painted in the same color. But I never pursued it.

I think any car can treat you well if you treat it well. There are exceptions. Some cars are just don't last long no matter what you do. I think you get a better chance of a longer life for your car if YOU buy it brand new. Then YOU know how its treated. Used cars are ALWAYS a gamble. Sometimes you do get lucky and buy a car that was owned by a person like you. Most of the time you don't lol. People treat their cars like crap. I'd hate to think of what they would do to a horse.
