Welcome. If it's not a Canadian car, an 81 camaro with a 350 will have an ecm and electronic carb and distributor. I'm guessing that harness has something to do with the electronic carb setup. If it no longer has that carb and distributor, it will probably run without that harness.

If you're speaking about the piece in the center that's a MAP/Differential pressure sensor. It is a load sensor to the computer. If the computer is hooked up, then Yes , you need it. Isn't there a vacuum line connected to it?

There is no VAC line connected to it. Its connected to the computer. I don't know what engine was in this car before, but I know that it was swapped to have a sbc350 and a thm350 trans. I have no idea if the computer is even doing anything to be completely honest. lol. As Derek might say, "I'm not so great with those electro digical things".

If the computer is non functional, then it was probably disconnected. Just curious, when you turn the key to the ON position, does a CHECK ENGINE light illuminate on the dash? Does the carburetor have a 2 wire connector going to it?

Center piece is a Map (Vacuum) sensor it should have a very thin vacuum line connected to it. The other end connects to the back top of the carb. The other devices are relays one for the electronic air switching (diverter) valve that sits on top of the smog pump. The other relay is used for the egr bleed solenoid and torque converter clutch. EGR bleed reduces vacuum to the egr valve when the car is in overdrive via the torque converter clutch.

Yes a check engine light should illuminate when you turn the key to the On position. If you have disconnected the computer you can remove these components. If you are still using the computer you have to keep them.
