I picked up an 87 iroc w a 350 tuneport motor. it goes ok but is high milage so i want to do a change this winter but i do not want to go carb, i want to keep the fuel system as it is.am i right in guessing that this has vortec heads on it? if so then any rebuilt motor with vortec heads will work correct ?

Vortec engines came out in 1995 for the 1996 model year. It was the first year V8 Vortec, but there were V6 and 4 cylinder engines that had similar combustion chambers starting in 1988. So, the tune port engines didn't come with Vortec heads, and they have a different intake manifold bolt pattern than the early heads. Check out the Vortec sticky for more info.

'96-99 for trucks, and '96-01 for vans I believe, for the "good" L31 vortec heads.

If its the original 350 that was installed from the factory, then it's a L-98,.... good potential if you replace the factory tuned port intake with aftermarket FI or carb it. If you stick with the factory unit you will be limited to around 300 HP (installed).
