I went back and forth 15 vs 17 for a few weeks but untimely figured the 17's would be overkill on stock Z28 suspension and I really wanted the the RWL tires.

I ran 15x8's on my vette for as long as I could stand because I liked the looks but had to get into 17's as the car was just too loose on 15's. It does have a full suspension kit - tubular upper and lower a-arms, dual mount composite springs front and rear that are 4 corner height and ride adjustable, Bilsteins, and aftermarket sway bars front and rear - very firm with no body roll and you could feel the sidewalls squirming on the BFG T/As going around corners. Sensible throttle control in 1st and 2nd gear required or it would swap ends in a blink. Going to 17's cured all that. I'm running Yokohama 235/50's up front and Nitto 255/50's out back.

Year One made a repop Z28 mag in 17 inches a while back. They are very nice looking wheels as I've seen them on a few cars.

Ok thanks. I think I need to go to 17's only because my car is capable of quite high speeds now and I need tires that can handle that. Also, as you said, the newer aluminum wheels are lighter and my 40 year old stockers probably aren't quite true anymore.

Keep an eye on tire height when going to larger wheels - the common 275/40r17 rear tire is only 25.6 inches tall while a 15 inch 255/60 is 27 inches tall.

17's were all I considered for both cars and ended up going with 235/50 (26.25 inches) and 255/50 (27 inches) on the vette for some extra ride height and to help fill up the fenders with rubber.

What a stunning car and an issue we all struggle with. Too bad, there's no "if you don't like it you can exchange for another set" when it comes to rims. I understand that you can do stuff on the computer but nothing beats standing back and looking in person.
