Which cars got an Amp Meter vs. Volt Meter?

1974 Z28 Coupe, 4-speed, HEI, Gauges. I ordered an ENGINE wiring harness from M&H. It has way too many wires. Sent pictures of my original harness and they said it was for a NO-GAUGE car. My car has gauges, and they all work. I have a VOLT gauge, and they said early Camaros had AMP gauges. After looking at examples online, cars from 1970 to 1981 seemed to have both AMP and VOLT types. I wonder, was the difference between getting an AMP gauge vs. a volt gauge the TYPE-LT vs. Coupe? Did TYPE-LT get AMP gauge and Coupe get Volt gauges?

My '74 Camaro has an ammeter, while my '78 Z28 has a voltmeter. I guess they switched sometime between those years. My dad always claimed the ammeter was better in that it gave earlier notice that something was wrong with the electrical charging system.

I hate ammeters for dash info. A volt meter gives you the best information on how your system is working. That is why car manufactures got away from lame ammeters.
