Which fluid for TH350?

Purchased a TH350 for a project, its been sitting empty since a rebuild some 10-12 years ago. Kinda scouted around (Advance, Auto Zone, Walmart) for what I believe went in these trannys some years ago, Dexron III I believe, and nothing positive, just a counter guy who says "that stuff will work". What WILL work, thats on the shelves today?

That's what my transmission buddy tells me. Valvoline Dex/Merc III from WalMart is what I use. No need for the more expensive stuff.

I used what COPO showed in his pic above, or the latest iteration of it.

FWIW When I asked my transmission guy what fluid to use in it he said go to Dollar General and buy the cheapest fluid you can find that has Dexron III on it. At 1st I didn't think he was serious but he said that's what he uses in all of his rebuilds. He said it's the same spec paying more is a waste of $.

Periodic changes are far more important than the exact type of fluid (in old school transmissions) even for high build racing transmissions.

Can't go wrong with Dexron III as suggested earlier.

Not in a TH350.

Yes, I have also used Valvoline type F ,(FA) in TH350 and TH400 for years.

That’s all I use in th350s and th400s.

I use type F in my TH350 that's been designed / built for Drag racing with a Pro Tree Transbrake and reverse manual valve body
