Right on. When I was at your point, I was looking at complete hoods that had the cowl height I needed. Again, less work and you can find hoods that look nice and subtle with the room you need.

Here is a link to the one I bought. I think many distributors carry it. Not cheap, but great quality.

Yep, bought it, tested it, don't use them......been many years.

If drop and/or design is required, I've used this. Even then, I stay away from them if at all possible.

I just cut a hole in my hood and did this.

I'm running an RPM Air Gap on my 400.With a 3" air cleaner and an essentially flat air cleaner base there's
plenty of clearance to the scoop on my 81.

If the PO hadn't hacked up the hood (and I mean HACKED,think he used a hatchet) with a careful choice of parts,i might have been able to use the factory air cleaner.Which I don't have so that doesn't matter anyway.

I bought this but would not fit over the carb. Sent it back.
