Windows 10 help--> to run XP program?

Ok the only computers/laptops I have anymore are windows 10 64 bit. Somehow I LOST my OOOOLD XP laptop with all my fuel injection data (and my solid works blueprints). So FINALLY have a motor together to go into my TA but I have no way to communicate with the ancient Holley Commander 950 ECU. Said unit uses a seriel plug (but I do have the PROPER serial-->USB adapter that worked with my old laptop). I have read thru many blogs that the ECU/program WILL work with Windows7 32 bit ONLY program....yay...so what cause that's NOT WHAT I HAVE...lol I have also read that you can run things AS XP administrator in windows 10??? This is way above my area of knowledge. 1st ...wtf is 32 and 64 bit have to do with program. 2nd I believe I can DOWNLOAD the ECU program from HOLLEY (I do still have the program disc I could load onto a thumbdrive...i think) but if I were to download it would I need to be in XP simulation mode?

ANY help getting to the finish line would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I pulled the ecu and harness out of the TA. I only cut like 3 wires as they are easy fixes anyway (fan,fuel pump,ground,primary power) as the unit was never "REALLY buttoned up". So now I can go on to the beach testing of communication!!!! I guess first off is to get the PROGRAM loaded on my laptop and start playing...

Thanks for the leads up there. I have seen several articles referring to the similar process of "administrator" and "compatibility mode" but obviously have yet to persue.

no joy on run as admin.
no joy run in compatibility mode for 98,xp pac2 or xp pac 3 or windows 8.........

as expected...this is going to suk. argh

so after many communications with some geeky friends....it just aint going to happen FOR ME without getting a different laptop. Then some other communications with a few tuners....why even bother going into the "way back" machine when modern ecu's offer SOOOO much more.

New plan is go FAST retrofit system

sometime in the near future. Car will run/drive with the awesome 70's technology of Holley 850 dp and HEI with MSD box... ;) another $1500 .....will need to make budget or that. At least I do have everything else IN PLACE and in working order so an ECU and harness should be a eezy-peezy swap.

lol...update! Just about to fire motor up after being pulled for CAR wiring issues and OIL PRESSURE concerns. Fixed oil pump issue (stuck check ball) put new rod bearings in while it was open and they looking like crap....and NOW a friends neighbors sisters cousin knows a guy who just refurbed his XP laptop (new drive and completely clean) so I now have a laptop XP. maybe one day in the future I will dismantle the new wiring harness I just made to incorporate the fuel injection harness but for now and until she gets some milage it's a DP holley with hei and curve kit ;)
