Several things.

I never get updates unless I allow it. I have it set as I showed previously. I do not understand getting updates when you tell it not to.

Next, I upgraded my copy to professional and I updated my Office package via an asian key seller. Yup, cost about $20. Keys work great; you download the software directly from Microsoft.

The updates allow for more than operating bugs; they update security holes as they find them. It's pretty complex and anyone who doesn't take the updates is just looking for trouble.

Lastly, you need three more things to make your Win 10 experience complete.
1) A fast computer to take advantage of it with an SSD.
2) A UPS to keep powerline transients from killing your machine or corrupting your software.
3) Backup software with an external drive (maybe two) using something like Acronis Backup.

I think what most people dislike about Win 10 is the update policy. Its enforced by Microsoft and they have a track record of rushing out OS updates. Often times this will cause a lot of problems until the next cycle of updates. And you can't turn off the updates to prevent this from happening. So often times users will lose functionality that they had prior to an update and sometimes for months on end. ...

this absolutely nailed it.

I have been saying for some time that MS adopted an Apple policy of forcing updates on their customer base;
Forcing your customers to do anything, is in my opinion, bad policy.

I use a Windows 10 computer for work, I dread intune pop-ups;
What's going to screw up now.

You CAN turn off automatic Win 10 updates.
I think that depends on your version of windows 10 - "windows 10" is actually a generic term these days which covers several (minutely, but different) operating systems;
I was able to force intune to the background for a spell, but I was more or less forced to update my windows 10, and now I cannot turn it off.

...
Remember the old saying, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." All too often, the updates will break something that was working.

Amen to that.

...
MS is trying really hard to be more Apple-like, and they shouldn't. Apple is in decline and MS was never good at copying things Apple does. This entire hands-off attitude towards the OS is not the way to go forward.
...

I couldn't agree more.
Microsoft used to be on the forward edge of things;
Now they are playing a version of follow the leader;
Did you notice how the 'microsoft store' are startlingly similar to apple stores?
The first location I saw, was in 2013 when we were on our honeymoon in Hawaii;
I laughed...

I use for work thee versions of 'Mitek' programs;
they still do not "play well" with windows 10...

One thing we havent really discussed is the personal data mining that is happening with Win10. You can disable a lot of it, but it's hard to know what data is actually being collected, tracked, and sold to 3rd parties.

You can stop the updates at the perimeter using a GOOD hardware firewall like Pfsense. Set your cable modem up n pass-through mode and let the firewall control it. It does take some time to initially set it up, but then you are in control of what goes in-out of your network. I would also recommend a good VPN. With the VPN, you can set Pfsense up as the VPN endpoint so that all the devices in the house are automatically data encrypted, at least to the other VPN endpoint. This stops at least some man-in-the-middle attacks.
Even with this I sometimes get a message saying that it can't connect to the update server, but I just smile and go on.

Woot! has a good backup power system for cheap today until they sell out. Prime members get free shipping.

I built a gaming/mining computer 6 years ago and installed Windows 10 on it. I rarely ever turn this computer on, but when I do, it seems to work well. At my work I still use Windows 7.
BitConnect robbed me good on Bitcoin. I put in three nVidia cards to do mining on this Windows 10. The only thing I hated is that the room gets so hot and that the computer uses more in electricity than it generates in Bitcoin. Now I don't know what I am going to do with all of these expensive video cards since they are no use for mining anymore.

Most people put miners in a garage or something because of the heat, one car can run up to 80C sometimes more since they're being put on a full load to do calculations.
Mining is hardly ever profitable though unless you have very cheap, or free electricity.
As for your cards, if they're somewhat recent (900 series or newer) you can sell them on ebay or craiglist, or some other market place for a decent price. Just depends on what it is. If you paid $800 for the crds you're most certainly not going to see that money come back though

Honestly unless you can pack a storage container with miner's it hasn't been profitable to mine as an independent for years. You could try to offset power costs w/solar, but i don't think its worth it.

While a lot of people didn't like the way Microsoft handled not being able to just do in and says "do not automatically install updates". From my time when I worked on computers it was a nightmare cause you would get these computers that needed updates for certain things to work, you go into system properties "Microsoft Windows 7"...not one single service pack installed, so now you have to do this updates in order to get this other update to fix this particular issue unless you are onsite and have hard copies you are going to be there a while. I mean you are going to be there a while regardless if the computer never had a service pack installed.

Windows 10 has been pretty flawless for me ever since it was released. Important thing like always is to make sure you always have back ups or even a image to restore your PC from if needed.

My gripe with software now days is everything going subscription based for applications and and for gaming putting a bunch of stuff behind micro transactions.
