It's not much more messy draining my RX-7 like this, than putting a hole in the filter. lol Depends on how much time I have to do it really.

If I have the time, then I'll just crack open the oil filler cap (where the oil goes in the motor) and then open the drain plug and let it set for awhile.

Later on, when I finally take the oil filter off, there's not much more oil there than if I use the screwdriver and hammer on it.
Perhaps safe to assume those RX7 filters do Not have ADBV ?

I used to use GM filters until they stopped making the long PF35 filter. I tried the equivalent many yrs ago and still today they have a thin casing like a pop or beer can, thin metal that can can easily twist. Not for me, it‘s China junk. GM really have cut corners and it seems they couldn’t care less about their customers. They’ll squeeze a nickel until it screams 30 cents. The funny thing is, China is laughing all the way to the bank. It’s pretty sad that both Canada and the US can’t even compete in making a freakin simple oil filter.

have you looked at or tried a Baldwin equivalent ?
seems Baldwin equivalents to PF35 are
B6 (without ADBV)
B1428 (with ADBV)

When I run out of my Wix made in USA filters I’ll look for other filters made in USA or Canada. Surely China hasn’t got the complete market. But it’s greed and $ that drives Companies to China and who cares about QC and customer support it seems nowadays.

Almost every old-line USA brand of aftermarket replacement parts is now owned by some sort of "equity firm". When that happends, it's "all in the numbers" in how things get done, by observation. There CAN still be some bright sports, though. We just have to find them! But, just like in the 1950s, there are good USA brands and not-so-good USA brands. Some even worse than "China-made brands", I suspect.

Y'all do know that (or used to be) some filter re-cyclers exist. Which apparently back-flush used filters so they can be re-used again. Mainly in the HD truck market, as I heard about in the later 1980s. Not unlike blowing out an air filter from the backside rather than automatically buying a new one.

I've been using Hastings and Baldwin filters exclusively for the last 20 years. I have a Farm Store a couple of blocks from my house that sells those brands.
The filters I have on hand are all still Made in USA. I'll be going out to pick up a few more soon and will check to see where the current ones are made. As far as I know, the Baldwin/Hastings filters are still made in their factory in Kearney, Nebraska.

My old filters (metal only) get put in the blue box for recycling. Mine can’t be reused since I open them up and roll out the paper filter for inspection. I can’t believe that someone would try and save a nickel and back flush an oil filter for the price of a new one. Unbelievable!

I still remember back in 1980 or so, when the US gave China 'most favored nation' trade status. My Dad was irate about it. "Trading to the damn Commies!? WTH!" lol I see why he was so pissed now though, decades later.
