Are all 70-73 Z28's supposed to the have rear bumper guards, gm 3982033? I think I have heard them referred to as "fangs". There seem to be a lot of Z28's without them.

I believe the rear bumperettes, (fangs), were discontinued on Z28s after the '72 model year, as was the VF3 deluxe bumper option, which would also include the fangs on non-Z28 optioned cars. As to why so many 70-72 Zs do not have the bumperettes?...likely either clones, never replaced after rear end collision or just simply deleted during repaint/restoration.

the front bumper guards are called fangs because they are on the front or face of the car. The rear bumper guards are merely called "rear bumper guards"

Or more notably "wisdom fangs" as many have been pulled over the years....

Regarding the rear bumper "fangs".....other threads in this section say that a select few Z28's came without floor mounted gas pedals and a select few 1970 SS cars came with a Z27 stamped trim tag, so, using that line of thinking, only some Z/28's will have these rear bumperettes.

Bump, I tried to install rear bumper guards on my car and the bumper seems to stick too far out. Is the factory 70-72 bumper different than 73 or a repop?
