A 73 rear bumper is different in two ways:
    1) It has a different profile than the earlier cars rear bumpers
    2) The mounting brackets hold it off the car farther...to help with bumper compliance (just as the front n 73s has more reenforcement than 70-2 cars).

there was a discussion years ago. Will see if I can find it.

Thanks, I tried to search and couldn't find anything. I can post pics of my bumper for help assistance.

There was a debate in the last year about differences between 70-72 and 73 bumpers. Not sure if that was really resolved. What is fact is there are different rear bumper mounting brackets. Short story is the 70-72 bumper mount brackets are short, moving the bumper tight to the quarters and rear panel. The 73 bumper mount brackets are taller, moving the bumper away from the from the quarters. See the difference in height of the center mounts attached, same applies for the other mounts. Been down this road. The rear bumper "fangs" will not sit properly on a bumper mounted with the taller mounting brackets. IMG_20191002_145053028.jpg

The way I received my car, just the center mounts was the 73 version and fangs looked like yours. To really determine what you have you need to at least remove the bumper.

I've been through this and can say with 100% confidence that there's no difference between 70-73 rear bumpers. It's only the brackets and the rubber cushions that were different for 73. I researched the hell out of this back in 2018 and there was absolutely no evidence at that time or since for a 73 only rear bumper. The 73 brackets will cause the bottom of the rear bumper guards to sit too far away from the tail panel. It can still be done but you'll need spacers. I know a member named Kaiser did it with his 73 (an outstanding car) but I don't remember the details.

Here's a thread I started about the topic.
    https://nastyz28.com/threads/why-are-73-rear-bumpers-hard-to-find.319076/

My guess regarding the only pic to show a supposedly 73 only rear bumper that started all of this for me was a bumper that had either been modified, rejected, or a poor attempt by an aftermarket vendor.
And no, twozs (R.I.P.) never PMed me for my cell number. :)

EDIT: The member with the 73 that added the rear bumper guards is Keizer. I butchered his name. Status is "banned" but I'll see if I can find some info on how he added them.
