I have to say BULL poo.
2.5 years is nothing without ZDDP. I put about 30,000 miles using Mobil-1 before I lost 3 lobes. I'll stick to using ZDDP until I go full roller.

For someone that is a Mechanical Engineer he's a dumass
    Read about his "rebuild"
    http://www.blackstone-labs.com/Newsletters/Gas-Diesel/July-1-2010.php

It seems to me that this guy would not be able to "engineer" his way out of a cardboard box.

Non ZDDP enhanced motor oil is questionable even in a run of the mill older engine with worn out valve springs and lazy lobe ramps.

Replace those valve springs to stock specs or beyond and see what happens, add more aggressive ramps and see what happens.

It's Rotella or Delo in any flat tappet engine of mine, VR1 with anything thats remotely aggressive on a flat tappet.

I learned the hard way, with a flat lobe after 40,000 miles on a Comp XE256.
