72 Z28, 1Q87L2N148893 for sale. Little over 30,500 miles on car. Automatic, 4:10 rearend. Original trans, original rearend. Engine is not original, but it is date correct and numbers matching. Engine has about 300 miles on it. Correct heads, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, carburetor is a service carburetor, restored and rebuilt, correct part number, not date. Have a correct carb, part number and date restored and rebuilt. Haven't put on car. Carb on car is running good so haven't swapped out for date correct one. The engine has an LT1 spec cam and solid lifters in it. Was built with a 10:1 compression ratio. Have all receipts for engine work and parts. Bought a N.O.S. delco remy distributor housing and stamped correct part number and a good date on housing. Have a set of new Goodyear F60-15 polyglass GT White lettered tires. Not on car yet. Have owned car for 6 years. Bought from a couple who had owned car for 35 years. They bought it with a blown engine. They bought a crate engine from Tennessee Racing Head Service. Sold original engine only keeping the pulleys, fan and spacer and power steering pump. They owned a body shop and he replaced the rt quarter panel and painted the whole car. He was in a bad accident where he was thrown from a Jeep and broke his neck. He was paralyzed from the neck down, but eventually regained use his arms but not legs. That happened about a year or so after they bought the car. The only time the car was driven after that is they took it to a drag strip a few times and the wife drove the car. They also trailered it to a few car shows.
The car was kept in a heated garage during the winter months. They lived in Upper Michigan.
When I bought the car, the brakes did not work, there was no fluid in the master cylinder. I replaced the entire brake system except for the proportioning valve, I had that rebuilt. Put on all new brake lines and hoses. New calipers and wheel cylinders. New master cylinder and brake booster. I saved all the parts that I took off of the car. I replaced the urethene nose and chrome grill surround. Kept the original parts. I changed the steering wheel, I have the original that came with the car. The driver's seat had a rip in it, I replaced the cover and foam buns. I have the second cover and bun set if the passenger seat ever needs repair. I replaced the carpeting. There are 4 new shocks. I am the 4th owner of the car. It's a battery topper on the battery. I replace the engine compartment wiring harness along with the tail light wiring harness. I replaced the front springs with 1 1/2 lowering springs. I kept the originals.
I have the build sheet and protecto-plate for the car.
Only 2575 built.
Asking $44,250 OBO
I am selling the car because there isn't much more can do to it. I get more fun out of old cars working on them, then driving them, and I'm looking at another project.View attachment 204999View attachment 205001View attachment 205003View attachment 205005View attachment 204999View attachment 205001View attachment 205003View attachment 205005View attachment 205011View attachment 205013View attachment 205017View attachment 205019View attachment 205021View attachment 205023View attachment 205027View attachment 205011View attachment 205013View attachment 205017View attachment 205019View attachment 205021View attachment 205023
I have many more pictures for the car. If interested, I can send them to your email address.
Where is car located? I'm in Detroit area, currently have a 79 Camaro, which I'm considering selling, low mileage, very nice sleeper with an LT-1, automatic, also a 4:10. If you could send more pictures, that would be great! Include cowl tag please. Engine compartment, interior, & if you have any on hoist. What I saw looks very nice. Any pictures of paperwork helpful, build sheet, etc. Thanks, Paul.

So if the engine is not original but its numbers matching...not understanding this. Did they stamp the pad on a new motor with the vin?
He may be refering to the internals. The numbers match perfectly. Even casting date.
It would be highly unlikely to find a block like that for your car if you needed to.
That's the best restamp I've ever seen if it is indeed one.

Removing the paint on the ID (chemically) and checking broach marks might give a clue.

The POP is a huge plus.

Car looks super clean.

I struggled with that statement too. I’ve understood that “numbers matching” engine meant the numbers on the block matched up with the corresponding numbers in the VIN, and synonymous with “born with”.

That's the whole problem I have with stating "Numbers Matching". Dealers and other sellers use the term to infer that it's actually "Born With".

Interesting to have that “play on words”. I suppose date codes and casting numbers can be correct but it’s not the “born with” engine so the VIN numbers won’t match. So I guess that would be “some numbers match”? 🤭
