Just reading the latest info on it, seems like they are saying the tranny is in question. Has an M22, but supposed to be an M21 in it, according to the P-O-P stamping.

On the engine stamping info, here are the 2 pics he provided of the stamping of that...

The "7" should be a "1" in the number to the left and I am not able to make out any broach marks. I am going to guess a very good re-stamp.
The different depth of the various characters is not a common thing I have seen either.

Seems a bit of a gap in the numbers. The engine is a late January (27th) assembly and the partial VIN number is very late March. Two months that the assembled engine was sitting around? I'm not an expert, but maybe this is OK? I think there may be a few others here who have a database of numbers for comparisons. On my Norwood car, there is a differnce of about 3 days.

Aside from the numbers, those back stripes are driving me nuts...they are WAY off. Without measuring, they "appear" to be the correct width visually, but are placed too close to the center-line of the decklid.

I am currently in the process of taping off stripes on my 70, and I am going strictly by the assembly manual. Being familiar with correct measurements and placement, it really makes them stand out. Joe Q. Public is most likely oblivious to this and will think they are just fine and dandy.

Why can't people ever seem to get those right? The information is available. It's not hard to do...and DOES make a difference.

Van Nuys cars were different. Short stripes and spacing was different.
1100 mile Van Nuys car.

Interesting. Why the difference? Were there two different spec sheets for stripe dimension and placement in the assembly manual...one for Norwood and one for Van Nuys? Or were there two different assembly manuals with different specs in each, one for each plant? I've only ever seen one...

Oh, and by short stripes, you are referring to Van Nuys taping them off on the filler panel and back of the hood, correct?

Yes, the Van Nuys rear stripes were very different than Norwood. Notice how they are also straight vs tapered.

I'm not sure, but I don't think they actually taped the stripes, but had maybe templates that laid over the panels.

I always wondered if Van Nuys short stripe cars were a result of using one template for both the vinyl roof cars and regular cars. The vinyl roof extended further back, then stripe ending before reaching the back glass.
