I had purchased a steering wheel of Ebay the other year.It was listed as a 70, had the 70 horn shroud pictured on it,When I received the wheel it turned out to be a 71 or 72 wheel (it's the thin hard plastic style like my 70 wheel),it has the 70 horn shroud...but no mounts/horn assembly etc. The guy had just laid the horn shroud on it for his pics,,,I got ripped off on it as it was listed as a complete wheel. I have the horn tabs, shroud, etc from my old wheel (the orig wheel was all cracked and the horn shroud etc was off)...but I'm missing the plastic rivets # 3983097 that go in the outer holes. It was posted you could use the 71 wheel, but as someone stated..the inner shroud mounting holes aren't drilled...no biggie to drill those as the metal base already has the hole..would just need to drill the plastic through. My problem lies in the fact that my 70 wheel has 3 extra threaded holes around the center of the wheel for the metal center bar and plastic ring assembly ring to bolt to that the 71 doesn't have. I don't even think that getting the holes drilled and threaded will work since the 71 wheel has 2 holes drilled horizontally next to the center shaft in a diff position that would interfere. The 70 also had a plastic circle lip around the inside center of the wheel that connected the top and bottom inner plastic as well(it seems to support the saucer shaped "spring" that goes on the wheel beneath the metal plate)that the 71 doesn't.
Help anyone????, has anyone actually done this ????I've sat with this for almost 2 years and might just sell the 71? wheel on the board as it's got minor scuffs and no cracks, and buy a Grant wheel instead of taking another chance on trying to buy another 70 wheel.I'm trying to get my car on the road soon, and want to figure out if I can get this 71? wheel to work
