i own a 81 z28 with an auburn limited slip differential. i went to the site for the dissasembly ( so i could change the axle seal) andit stated that e pinion gets suck and u should use a brass drift n hammer to hit it out. i didthis yet the pinnion got aimed in the back of the houseing almost out but cant go any farther and is now stuck and are incapible of push ing it back in due to minimum space in the back and how difficult the pinion moves in it. my question is how do i get the pinion bck in to get clearence to rotate it bck around and if incapible then wats the next step to getting the setup out, with minimal labor. any help would be very much apprishiated

Been there, done that.

Been there, done that. If rotating the pinion will not free up the carrier pin; Remove the axles, unbolt the carrier, remove the carrier, mark and/or ensure carrier bearing spacers and races from each side are identified for re-assembly. You can now continue to remove the carrier pin on a bench or the ground.

But the cross pin has to come out to get the clips out of the axles doesn't it? Major problem when you drive it to the back of the case. Torch?

no i removed the locking pin and forced the pinion to the back of the houseing but isnt all the way out and has no room to go any further to come out, i cant spin any of he gears or componets bc the pinion is stuck between the top of the houseing and the bck gear

You're going to have to get the pin back into the housing enough to rotate it around. I always push the end with the hole in it out first so I can use the hole as a leverage point.
