Just letting you guys that do big block swaps know that the the Ultra Front mount for long water pump makes the power steering pump hit on the steering box. Anyone else have this problem?
yep i had the very same problem and i have herd of other people alos having this problem. i e-mailed march about it and they never e-mailed me back! so i just got a diffrent bolt for the corner of the box that the pully was hitting. does yours hit the actual box or just the bolt head. but even after getting a bolt with a shorter bolt head i still had to grind the bolt head untill the pully cleared. my problem now is finding a belt that fits. if you find a belt that fits let me know. i tried to just get belts for a 454 big block of that year but it was too small. then i tried a slightly bigger belt and it didn't work but i think the kids a pep-boys didn't quite understand my problem and got me a diffrent belt than i asked for.
I had a relatively unique solution to the problem. I just didn't use the pretty adjuster bracket. (Mine was used anyway, so it wasn't like it looked GREAT to begin with.) I just took a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate, cut it about 4" long, and drilled a hole for it to go in the top right bolt hole in the head. I then used the slot adjuster from the small block pump. After that, I drilled a hole in the plate that lined up with the slot. This allowed me to raise the pump above that stupid bolt. I then used a belt that was 39.5" long. The pump sits a little different, but I don't think it interferes with its operation.
