I would keep it original. I owned a 71 Z28 4-spd from 1975-1977. Man, was that a fun era.

Original. Mine is and I drive it all the time. Anybody can put non-original parts together to make a car, it takes a lot more effort to keep it original. I know that when I see original cars at shows, it just means more to me to see them how they were originally put together. Good luck whichever way you go, sounds like a fun project.

Guess what? I have a 70 Z auto and if it ever gets done, I'm going to drive it and enjoy it! I have the original block thats cracked, and I'm putting in another block. I've owned this car from 1977. I know it's an original Z. But I know it's never going to have the value of an all original, never driven, unenjoyed car. But it's worth it to me!

Thanks...I understand those who say keep as is and those that say do what I want...I will keep you posted...I will get some pictures online in October and I will go from there.....I am torn, Automatic or 4 speed is not a big deal really to me, but I would like to enjoy the AC in the Humid Southern Summers...and Drive the Car! I have no intention as using this as a Resale investment, and plan on keeping the body and interior original, I may put flowmasters or a nice exhaust but I have seen the AC conversions advertised online, it does not seem to take away from any thing as far as appearance of the car. Thanks

Having said that, make it your own and enjoy! What good is having it if all you do is "have" it, and do nothing more? ;)

It's all a matter of personal preference

Personally I would find an "original matching numbers" car boring, but I know they hold their value much better because they "preserve history" and enough people are willing to pay for that. If you can afford it, I would take the suggestion of removing and saving the entire drivetrain and then putting in what you want. All just IMHO.
