the reason they are even labeled that was is because alot of lt1 f-body owners will do the "ls brake mod" because they are larger and cheap to get a hold of...

The pins are gonna do that. I have seen that on everything from Hondas,Escorts, and the wifes Grand Prix. They just need routine maintenance is all.
explain " routine maintenance " to a set of front disc brakes ? in laymans terms , you shouldn't have to lube your slider pins between pad changes . there is no routine maintenance for a set of floating caliper slide pins . like, say I'm a chick , am i supposed to jack my car up , pull the wheel , pull the caliper off , and see if my pins are still free wheeling . please ! I'm looking in my 2001 camaro owners manual and it has no maintenance on the brakes just inspect and replace

Dude, lay off. I simply mean that on a given Saturday if the thought crosses my mind I will pull a wheel off an check my wifes brakes. My kids ride in that car everyday. In the three years we've lived together I have done this three times. Not annually just whenever.

The pins in the rear were toast the first time I did pads. If there is an issue such as needing to replace a rotor or pads I disassemble everything wire wheel the crap out of the pins, clean the abutments, make sure the boots are cool, grease and reassemble.

Not slap pads on and go. Thats all I meant. Maybe I should have chosen my words better, routine it is not.

well thats 2 people , i guess its a revolution ! if you call it an "ls1 brake " and the ls1 came in 2 different body styles how do you determine which car you are talking about ? the vette or the F body ? i don't really care what you call it . from an "LS1 " owner since it had 3.5 miles on it for 10 years as today ( good friday 2001 ) there not that good . good luck with your work . especially when your cobbling them where they don't belong , i would imagine .

You seem to have entered this thread with a chip on your shoulder. The guy used a different term is that really such a big deal?

Routine can vary with local. In NY the pins may be troublesome due to salt and moisture and could possibly need more attention; Here in the dry southwest not so much. Nobody is doubting your experience but it may not be the same for everyone. For those that can not perform their own maintenance like a "chicks" then it is off to the shop for "routine inspections", usually done when oil changes and tire rotations are performed.

Seems to me that the pins and bushings should be cleaned, inspected and lubricated with all pad changes no matter where the car sees service. The pins are already out----just a couple minutes to do.

+4.

I bought LS1 calipers years back with the intention of using the cheaper, yet similar calipers with larger C5 rotors. (never got around to it yet though)
