As you can see the cleaning of the underside of my Orange car is coming along. I took these today, I dropped the trans down to clean the tunnel top of trans bellhousing etc. As you can see the O on the back of the right head, note the heavy paint along the top of the bellhousing causing big time runs all the way to the trans. Also the clip to hold the TCS wire on the trans, another TCS clip to add to the list!!
Remember I haven't touched a can of paint this is just cleaning with soap and water with lots of differant brushes. It is long hard work, just have a looong way to go.
Later, Jack

Jack what are you using to clean your car.
I have 2 621 bell housings that have never been cleaned, I am curious if they
have the same yellow grease pencil marks circling the part number. One is
off a 70 Z the other is off of my L78 which still has the same TCS clip.
Your car really looks great........

Jack, it looks great........I sure hope you're bringing that car to carlisle.

I guess you're going to have to get a "stacker" trailer and a bigger truck, so you can bring both car's

Great pictures! Even better car! What is the small square unit on the right of the transmission tailshaft at the end of the speedo cable?

Square unit is a Speedo cable adapter part # 3950352 (it has Stewart Warner and ratio .8241 stamped on it). Used on 1970-75 all ST (standard transmissions). If you don't have this then the speedo will not read correctly. These are scans of the unit. Now that I have a dig camera, I'll take them and swap them on my web site.

Mark L, you have to be careful when cleaning not to remove any factory marking. I try to use nothing but soap and water but that doesn't always work. Some degreasers will take the crayon marks off and some don't, you just have to work slow and do a test on a section before blasting it all over. I use everything from gas to lacquer thinner and Gunk pro.
Buddy, The car will be at Carlisle thats my goal and why I've been cleaning like Crazy!! guess my Green car will stay home this year.
Mark is correct about the speedo reducer not sure what the speedo would read without it lower or higher.

Jack,
The car sure looks great. I hope that you are taking lots of pictures too.

What color is the undercarriage? Is it the "hugger orange" or a generic color on all Camaros? I have read different info so I'm left unsure. Along the same line, is the inside of the car is the same as the body color or the underside color?

The cross member looks like natural steel, not painted? or is it the flash from the camera trick?
Thanks
JJ

When I look at the first picture where you can see the underside of the hump, is the cut in the floor original or have you refined it. Its extremly well done, all other cars I have seen with manual transmission have been cut really bad under the hump but this one looks perfect.
